HUT · Hut 8: Beacon Point is still leased. ERCOT paused large-load energization.

HUT on Nasdaq is Hut 8, often written HUT8. The 949 MW book has not been cancelled. Texas will not energize large computational loads until the audit finishes.

Why this name is on the tape

Hut 8 Corp. trades as HUT on Nasdaq and the TSX. People still type HUT8. The contracted AI book is still 949 MW — River Bend 245 MW with Fluidstack and Beacon Point 704 MW with an unnamed high-investment-grade tenant. Almost none of that IT load is live. ASIC compute still paid Q2.

A separate MarketNeon note covers the leases, the $7.5 billion of project notes, and the 2027 delivery calendars as they stood after Q2. This article is the Texas large-load pause that landed on 3 August 2026. A paused study is not a cancelled lease. It is not a ranking of the stock and not a trade instruction.

What ERCOT actually paused

On 3 August 2026 Texas Governor Greg Abbott directed ERCOT and the Public Utility Commission to verify data-center projects in the large-load interconnection queue — electricity and water use, onsite generation, cooling, incentives, and ownership. ERCOT then paused Batch Zero classification and said it would not authorize large computational loads, including data centers and crypto sites, to energize until that verification is done. The review is expected to run for several months.

Beacon Point, in Nueces County, has an interconnection with AEP Texas for 1,000 MW of utility capacity. Initial energization is still a company target for the first quarter of 2027; first-hall delivery for the third quarter of 2027. Construction of Phase 1 and the substation was already underway. None of that is Q2 colocation revenue, and none of it is an ERCOT authorization to turn the campus on.

What Hut 8 has said, and what Needham recapped

In late August a Needham note said Hut 8 management described Beacon Point as a large load with no deficiencies flagged, interconnection testing complete, and said the campus may be among 23 Texas projects ERCOT had allowed through the current review. That is a sell-side recap of a management call, not an ERCOT authorization and not a named tenant. Management still pointed to Q1 2027 initial energization and Q3 2027 first-hall delivery. Needham said a slip into Q2 2027 would use about two quarters of construction buffer before the ready-for-service ramp.

River Bend, the 245 MW Fluidstack site, is a separate campus with its own Q2 2027 delivery target. The $26.6 billion contracted book and $7.5 billion of non-recourse project financing did not move when the queue paused. They also do not move Beacon Point’s energization date by themselves.

What this does not tell you

An ERCOT pause is evidence that Texas is auditing large loads before they energize. It is not proof that Beacon Point is cancelled, approved, or delayed into Q2 2027. Q1 2027 power and Q3 2027 halls are still company targets. The unnamed tenant and the take-or-pay leases are still the contracted book from the earlier note.

On MarketNeon, HUT is a ticker like any other: price, volume, crowd mentions, and headlines can run hot while the AI load is still a 2027 construction calendar. This article is context for those prints. It does not rank the name, and it does not tell anyone to buy or sell.
